Jergens (Learn more)

The tour will cover the latest in applied industrial improvements relating directly to production improvements. The guests will see first had how to reduce actual set up time from hours to minutes. They will see the use of technology on the factory floor for cutting tool replacement using the internet/ monitoring and they will see on floor training/education using on line tools. Employees receive direct job related training and education via on line internet training.

The Timken Company – Faircrest Steel Plant (Learn more)

The Timken Faircrest Steel plant focuses production on specialty alloy, higher-volume products than can be melted, rolled, and finished in a continuous process, taking advantage of the facility's integrated structure. Tour attendees will see the results of several continuous improvement initiatives/methods including; Lean 6 Sigma initiatives focused on reduced variation and improved yield, performance measure and standards, plant-wide gainsharing plan, advanced process control systems, constraint analysis with computer systems. Multiple areas of the Timken facility will be visited including the chem lab, electric arc furnace, ladle refining station, ingot making, the rolling mill, and roll shop.

The Lincoln Electric Company – Machine Division (Learn more)

Tour participants will see the assembly of the company's various inverter, transformer, and engine driven welding machines. Lincoln has a history of vertical integration, making many of the parts used in these welders. As such, the tour will also view the sheetmetal fabrication, plastic molding, painting and coil winding areas. Six Sigma and lean tools are used for continuous improvement. Examples of techniques such as quick die changes and the move from long assembly lines to more agile short lines and assembly cells will be shown. There will be discussions on the operation's change from a forecast-and-build philosophy to a pull replenishment environment as well as the long standing and widely studied Incentive Management Program.

The Lincoln Electric Company – Consumables Division (Learn more)

Tours will be conducted in the 500,000 square foot Consumables Division Plant located in Mentor, Ohio. Visitors will see the production of multiple coiled wire welding consumables. Lincoln has a history of continuous improvements in production processes and continued enhancements to quality systems. The tour members will see our wire drawing production from the receipt and testing of raw materials, to the packaging of the finished products. The tour will include a review of our consignment inventories and their tracking to the wire drawing lines. A review of the coiled wire rewind cells and the associated packaging systems will also be included as examples of processing productivity improvements made in this plant. A discussion of our comprehensive QA system will be included along with a review of our long standing and widely studied Incentive Management Program.

Alcoa Forged and Cast Products (Learn more)TOUR IS FULL

Participants will see several presses that Alcoa's products are made on. In addition, attendees may get a first-hand look at TPM and 5S events in which employees are sorting, cleaning, organizing, repairing, and painting throughout the plant. Witness employees studying a process in an effort to reduce completion time. With 985 employees, Alcoa Cleveland Works produces auto, truck, aerospace and tank wheels. They also produce brakes, landing gears, locomotive pistons, A-Arms for military vehicles, engine tylon fittings, bulkheads, and structural parts for center wing boxes.

Ford Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1 (Learn more) TOUR IS FULL

Cleveland Engine Plant 1 is the home of the new 3.5L EcoBoost Engine which powers the MKT, Flex, MKS and Taurus SHO. The plant will also be producing the 3.5L RWD that will power the 2011 Mustang. The plant currently has 291 Hourly employees and approximately 36 salaried employees. The plant is 1.3 million square feet. Participants will tour the Head Assembly Line, Crankshaft Machining area and the Engine Assembly Area. The focus of the tour will be on Flexible Manufacturing, Quality Systems and employee training and development.

Swagelok Company (Learn more)

Those participating in the Swagelok tour will experience and gain insight on the use and deployment of Lean Daily Management System, Lean Supply Chain (a deep dive into the value stream of a product family), Foundational Lean (applications of CEDAC, 5S, Tool set-up reduction, standard work, and Cell design), and Assembly Design (use of technology, poka yoke, visual feedback, and guided stage gates).
